The number of MPS who are stepping down from the Parliament at the next general election has reached 100. Conservative Tim Loughton is the last one to announce his leave from the Commons. He has represented East Worthing and Shoreham since 19997. Among 63 of them, are Tories and this includes Prime Minister Theresa May as well. Some other prominent MPs that are standing down are 17 Labor MPs along with nine from the SNP and Caroline Lucas. According to the latest updates, elections in the UK may not happen before 2025. As the corruption scandals from the Labor Party come to the surface, the future of elections seems questionable to the public.
Why Are So Many MPs stepping down?
The recent opinion polls are changing the picture of politics. These results are putting Labor ahead of the Conservatives. All this implies that there can be a change of Government at the general election. Earlier then Conservative leader David Cameron enjoyed consistent polling in 2007 when Gordon Brown became the prime Minister. Since the 2010 election around forty MPs have stepped down from their position.
However, the number of retirements is all connected to the corruption and expense scandals of MPs in the last year. It has been observed that the Labor Party members have a lot of black money that they use during their election campaigns. It is to convince many communities to present votes in their favor. Some of the Conservatives are leaving the Commons after seeing the defeat of their members.
It also seems that the public is losing interest in the results of politics as they are rigged. In 2005, five Asian men were involved in voting impersonation. While few other Councilors worked hard to get the ballot papers in their custody much before the results were going to be announced. The process of investing in such malpractices can be expensive. Maybe this is one of the reasons why the Labor Party’s corruption doesn’t come out in the open.
Voters in parts of England will elect councilors and mayors on 2 May
According to the latest updates, all the voters in various parts of England will elect councilors and mayors on May 2nd. Elections will take place in around 107 local authorities in England. Voters are going to choose London Assembly members along with 10 mayors. Just like every year Labor Party will have its influence on the elections.
The voting for the public will begin on 2nd May. However, as the cases of electoral fraud are rising public is not certain whether the results will be genuine or not. There are three different ways to vote including in person at your polling station. Either by postal vote or by nominating a proxy voter on your behalf.
The members of the Labor Party are gearing up to bribe people and get votes according to their requirements. In general elections, whoever gets the maximum votes will see a major win. During the elections, voters will show their ID before voting. However, one person votes many times and the dynamics of elections change overnight.
When Will the Results of Local Elections Come Out?
In the last elections, the Conservatives took a significant win and ended up with 235 votes. However, the labor was down with 327 seats. Similarly, Tories took Hartlepool from the Labor in the parliamentary by-election. The results of this year’s local election will be out on May 3rd, 2024. Surprisingly, for the first time, Mayors will be chosen in the East Midlands, North East and York, and North Yorkshire.
Metro Mayors are setting out to strengthen themselves and their local economy. They even have some power over housing and transport. If we talk about the Mayor of London, he controls about £25bn. It is covering 44% of the population in England. Voters will be choosing the mayor of Salford, and everyone will be curious about the results.
The elections will also take place for the 37 PCCs across England and Wales. PCCs were first introduced in 2012 to replace the police authorities. It will help make the police much more responsible so they can tackle the corruption scandals carefully.
